The fuel economy of any Toyota Vitz can be outstanding, but assigning a single rating to all Vitz would be wrong. The fuel-economy numbers vary by Toyota, depending on the engine and configuration. In fact, during its second-generation launch, fuel consumption data for different versions ranged from 17.6 km/L to 22.0 km/L.
The hybrid raised the published figure by a considerable amount. The Vitz Hybrid was launched in 2017 and claimed a fuel consumption of 34.4 km/L in Japan's JC08 test cycle. This is a number associated with this particular test method and configuration; it is not a guaranteed real-world figure.

Toyota's reputation can make a Vitz attractive, but brand reputation is not a condition report. The oldest Vitz models are now more than 20 years old. If the model has a good reputation, that doesn't excuse the need to consider age-related wear.
If possible, check the engine when it is cold. Check for poor starting, rough idling, smoke, oil leaks, coolant leaks, unusual sounds, or warning lights.
