A maximum of 15 years old vehicles can be imported to Canada.
Both Left Hand Drive (LHD) and Right Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles can be imported from Japan.
In Canada, no inspection is required for imported cars.
Import Duty: Vehicles outside the NAFTA region attract a 6.1% duty. NAFTA vehicles—those produced/assembled by Canada, the US, or Mexico and incorporating at least 55% of their content into the vehicle—are exempt from duties. Check duty-free status with the BIS.
Goods & Services Tax (GST): The vehicles must pay an import GST of 5% to Canada Customs at the border on the imported vehicles.
Provincial Sales Tax (PST): Due on registration, depending on your province’s rate and rate of exchange at the time of registration. The Canada Customs receipt is frequently employed by provincial agents.
Air Conditioning Tax: A $100 border tax for automobiles with air-conditioning.
Excess Weight Tax: Other taxes are charged for cars above 2,007kg or 4,425 pounds.
Gas Guzzler Tax: For new/imported vehicles with fuel consumption of 13+ L/100 km:
13-14 L/100 km: $1,000
14-15 L/100 km: $2,000
15-16 L/100 km: $3,000
16+ L/100 km: $4,000
Other Fees:
RIV Fee: $195 + GST (and QST in Quebec) for inspection of US vehicles.
Provincial Safety & Emissions Inspection Fees: Varies from province to province/ territory; contact the motor vehicle department.
Canada Import Regulations: Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin or Certificate of Origin (front and back)—Original Title. If your vehicle is not expected to have any of these documents, you should present a certificate of No Title.

I bought this Toyota Hiace because I required strong vehicle for carrying people and goods. The cabin is wide, engine has good power and the van can handle daily work. After I selected this one, they prepared export side and advised me about documents needed at my side. I appreciated their support because importing commercial vehicle is not always simple. The van had some normal signs of use, but mechanically it is performing good. Overall, I am pleased with my decision.

For family person, I think Toyota Sienta is very smart vehicle. It is compact from outside, but when you enter, the space is surprising. Good car, simple car and useful car. That is what I needed.The silver colour is looking fine, cabin has enough room, and the rear section can carry many items. It is not luxury vehicle, but for normal work and family use it is doing very well. Driving is easy and visibility from front is good. SAT Japan helped me to locate a car inside my budget. There were few normal marks because it is used vehicle, but nothing that made me regret buying it.
