Used M1 passenger vehicles imported into Cyprus from outside the EU generally must be no more than 5 years old from the date of first registration when they arrive in Cyprus. Registration rules are handled by the Cyprus Road Transport Department.
You can import right-hand drive vehicles into Cyprus, subject to the required registration and approval rules. Left-hand drive vehicles may require SVA approval.
Imported vehicles must pass the required roadworthiness or MOT inspection before registration. The inspection covers key safety and mechanical components of the vehicle. Documents You May Need for the Vehicle Inspection Include Vehicle registration document Invoice or proof of ownership CO2 certificate Insurance certificate Customs documents After inspection, the required documents are submitted to the Cyprus Road Transport Department for registration.
Import Duty: Generally 10% of CIF value for passenger cars imported from outside the EU.
VAT: 19% of the customs value plus import duty.
Excise Duty: Motor vehicle excise duty is no longer charged in Cyprus.
For vehicles imported from Japan or another non-EU country, you may need: Original registration certificate Purchase invoice Bill of Lading Shipping documents Customs clearance documents MOT certificate CO2 certificate Insurance certificate T2L or T2LF documents are mainly used to prove the Union status of vehicles arriving from another EU member state and are not normally required for vehicles shipped directly from Japan. The registration process for vehicles imported from outside the EU differs from that for vehicles arriving from another EU country. Left-hand drive vehicles may also require SVA approval.
Import duty is 10% of the cost + freight. Add the FOB cost and the
shipping cost and calculate 10% of this amount.
VAT is 19% of FOB, Freight and Import Duty. Add the FOB cost,
shipping cost, and import duty together and then take 19% of this
amount.
