In Ghana, the import of used vehicles older than 10 years is not allowed, and you will need to pay a graduated duty and penalty to import a vehicle older than this age.
You can only import left-hand drive vehicles in Ghana, and import of right-hand drive vehicles is prohibited.
No inspection is required for the import of used cars in Ghana.
Import duties calculated on used cars depend on various factors, including
By engine capacity - 1500cc, 1800cc, 2000cc, 2500, 3000cc etc
By seating capacity - 5, 10, 30, 50 persons
By usage - Buses, trucks, lorries, tippers, etc
By age - Age from the date of manufacturing
The duties and taxes imposed are the following
Import duty - 0%, 5%, 10%, 20
Examination fee - 0% or 12.5%
ECOWAS Levy - 0.5%
National Health Insurance Levy 0.5%
Import VAT 1%
Original Bill of Lading (containing information about CC size, Engine number, brand, and model)
