Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Australia

Vehicles over 30 years old 

  • Duty 0%

  • GST 10%

New and used vehicles up to 30 years old 

  • Duty 10%

  • GST 10%

Four-wheel off-road/ commercial vehicle 

  • Duty 5%

  • GST 10%

Custom duty is payable at 5% for cars and 5% for 4WDs. 

10% GST is paid on the valuer of taxable importation 

The luxury car tax is applied if the value of taxable importation exceeds the Luxury car threshold amount.
