Used Cars Import Rules and Regulations in the Namibia

Age Restriction

Import of cars older than 2007 is prohibited in Namibia

Right-Hand Drive

In Namibia, only importation of right-hand drive vehicles is allowed. Only diplomats are given the exception by Namibian customs authorities.

Inspection

No inspection is required for the import of used cars in Namibia.

Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Nambia

Custom Duty Includes

  • Import Tax - 10%

  • VAT - 15%

  • Duties - 0-85%

  • Imported vehicles can only be sold or disposed of in Namibia after 24 months from the date of importation. 

  • Each family is permitted duty-free importation on only one vehicle if it has been owned or used at least 1 year prior to shipment. 

  • It is substantial for the exporter to be the owner of a vehicle for 12 months or more before importing the vehicle to Namibia. Otherwise, tax and duties will be applicable. 

  • It is mandatory for new immigrants to have a permanent resident permit for the import of used vehicles. 

  • Diplomats are exempted from paying taxes and duties 

  • You cannot import a vehicle on a work permit. It is mandatory for you to have a residence permit.
