Age Restriction

The used car being imported to Mauritius should not be more than 5 years old from the date of first registration at the time of shipment.

Right-Hand Drive

Only right-hand drive vehicles are permitted to be imported into Mauritius.

Inspection

Before exporting, the cars must go through a roadworthiness inspection. Bureau Veritas carries out this inspection. Second-hand vehicles also need to have a valid import permit.

Before shipping the vehicle, the import permit must be obtained from the origin country.

Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Mauritius

The origin of the imported used vehicle affects the tax rate the vehicle may be subject to. General tax rates apply to vehicles imported from all foreign countries.

Preferential rates apply to vehicles imported from countries with Mauritius trade agreements. The amount of tax applied will depend on the specifics of the agreement (the tax rate can be reduced or even zero).

Value Added Tax (VAT)

Imported used vehicles are liable for a value-added tax (VAT) of 15%.

Vehicles with engine capacity below 550cc - 15%

Vehicles with engine capacity from 551 – 1600cc - 55%

Very happy with the Probox. It looks simple, strong and ready for daily work. I especially like the practical body and good ground clearance. SAT Japan made the purchase easier for me.
