Used Cars Import Rules and Regulations in the Singapore

Age Restriction:

Cars over 3 years old cannot be imported into Singapore.

Hand Drive Vehicle

Importation of right-hand drive vehicles is permitted in Singapore.

Inspection

All imported cars must undergo inspection at an LTA-Authorized Inspection Centre and pass all necessary tests.

Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Singapore

Used Car Surcharge: S$10,000.

Excise Duty: 20% of the OMV (customs value of the vehicle).

Goods & Services Tax (GST): 7% of the total cost, including insurance and freight, and Excise Duty.

Vehicles Emissions Scheme (VES) Surcharge: S$10,000 to S$20,000 depending on emissions.

Certificate of Entitlement (COE): Up to S$62,190.

Registration Fee: S$220.

Additional Registration Fee (ARF): 100% for the first S$20,000 of OMV, 140% for the next S$30,000, and 180% above S$50,000.

Documents Required for Import of Vehicle in Singapore

  • Original purchase invoice.

  • Freight and insurance papers.

  • Receipts for any other incidental charges.

  • Exhaust emissions test and windscreen test documents.

  • Original foreign vehicle registration documents (for used cars).
